Raffi Torres and NHLPA appeal his 25 game suspension

Keyword: raffi torres, suspension, appeal

So the hit that Raffi Torres put on Marian Hossa of the Chicago Blackhawks is still the talk of the league and for great reason.  With Raffi’s indefinite suspension until his hearing where he would find out his faith, the news of a 25 game suspension sent shock ways through Phoenix.

The NHLPA announced they’ve appealed the suspension on the grounds of its severity, rather than appealing the fact that Torres was suspended in the first place (according to Daren Millard of Sportsnet).  There are a few things to think about here:  A Player may seek review of a disciplinary determination by the Commissioner, who will endeavor to rule promptly on any such appeal. In cases following a formal, in-person hearing, the Commissioner will apply a “de novo” standard of review.

You guys ready for the catch 22 here guess who that Commissioner is? Yup you guess it, Gary Bettman who will have the final say and Oh wait, is the de facto owner of the team from which Raffi Torres was suspended making his odds of winning this appeal slim to non.

This is going to be a tough call and I cant wait to see how  this appeal goes.  There is so much to consider in this decision that we do not think of regardless of the length of the suspension, again this is a business so money issues are going to be involved and all sorts or fairness at the end of the day is going to be taken into consideration.  Stay tuned with us as we learn more about this story… HAPPY FRIDAY
