New Jersey Devils hire Scott Stevens as assistant coach
Keyword: new jersey devils, scott stevens, assistant coach
The man most of you either loved or hated, Scott Stevens, has been named assistant coach and will be sharing the Devils bench with Peter DeBoer this upcoming season. We all remember Scott Stevens, you know, Captain of the team, one of the most feared defenseman in the league, a 3 time Stanley Cup Champion, a Hall of Fame inductee, and the first person in franchise history to ever have his jersey retired.

Stevens explained how it all went down and how he landed himself a gig behind the bench:
“I’ve been thinking about [this] all year, about getting more involved, getting behind the bench and getting closer to the action,” Stevens told the media via a conference call. “With Larry leaving, it was unfortunate, but it kind of opened the door for myself and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

I don’t know, just because he was a great player and played for great coaches doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be a great coach himself. Yes he will be able to teach some of these guys unimaginable tricks of the trade, that’s for sure… But there is more to coaching than that. I am very curious to see how this one turns out.
